We had some "introduced" into our neighborhood while I was growing up. They mated with the native red skwerls and produced some beautiful offspring.
nowadays it is not at all unusual to see a black skwerl with a red tail or teh other way around too. I love the ones that are a bit more evenly mixed, those ones always throw me, like someone played a joke on them and switched their tails while they were sleeping. :-)
I would loooooovvveee to see a picture if you can get a shot! They sound so cute. We only have the regular old grey ones around here. But they are cute enough for me. I think I would pass out if I had white ones like shush or black and red ones like you.
I'll have to ask my Mom to see if she can get a shot of one, or you'll have to wait until the next time I visit home. I'm on Long Island now but this was in Michigan.
Ah well, I suppose it is a bit much to ask you to drive on over to Michigan for the afternoon, huh? Sigh... I will just have to let my imagination paint the picture.
